Activities for the whole family this summer

Insikten is located in the Olidan area of Trollhättan. Here you can enjoy beautiful natural surroundings, play at the Hydropower Playground, and visit the exhibition at the Insikten Energy Centre, which is open throughout the summer season.

Opening Hours – Insikten Energy Centre 2026

The Insikten Energy Centre is open seasonally (12 June–16 August)

Monday–Tuesday: 11:00 AM–5:00 PM
Wednesday: 12:00 PM–8:00 PM
Thursday–Sunday: 11:00 AM–5:00 PM

On Wednesdays, we stay open later in connection with the classic car meetups in the area – a perfect opportunity to combine the two experiences during your visit.

Activities at the Energy Centre

Exhibition

With panoramic views of the river, the power station’s water intakes, and the surrounding greenery, visitors are invited to explore an exhibition where hydropower and the lock system take centre stage. Created in collaboration between Trafikverket, Sjöfartsverket, Vattenfall and Trollhättans Stad, the exhibition shows how the interaction between technology and nature has played a crucial role in the development of Trollhättan and continues to shape its future.

Ström’s Escape Mission

“A serious fault has been discovered at the Hojum Power Station. Both Trollhättan’s electricity production and shipping traffic are at risk. The only person who can fix the problem is engineer Ström – but he is locked inside the Olidan Power Station…”

This summer, Insikten invites you to take part in an exciting adventure: Ström’s Escape Mission, featuring fun and challenging tasks spread throughout Trollhätte Canal Park. Together with your family or friends, you can help save both Ström and the region’s electricity production.

The activity is completely free of charge and starts at the Insikten Energy Centre. To complete the mission, you will need to visit several locations in the surrounding area.

Café and Toilets

The building includes a café on the ground floor and public toilets at the entrance level. An additional toilet is available outside on the left-hand side of the building.

Just Outside: The Hydropower Playground

Next to the Insikten Energy Centre you will find a themed playground, perfect for families with children. The playground features interactive water play with pumps, streams and locks, as well as a 15-metre-long whale packed with play opportunities.

There is also a viewing tower and several seating areas where visitors can relax and enjoy a picnic.
