The Sauna on Dyrön Island

Dyrön’s electrically-heated sauna is located on the edge of the islands southern side with fantastic views to the Marstrand and Hake fjords. The shipping channel to Wallhamn, Stenungsund and Uddevalla passes just outside, so do not be surprised if large ships turn up when you are enjoying the sauna.

The sauna room accommodates 12 people at any one time. There is a small communal dressing room and a relaxation room. After the sauna you can bathe from the jetty. You can also cool off in the somewhat safer “cowards hole” if the weather is rough. A toilet and three showers are located in a separate building next to the sauna. The showers have tepid fresh water all year round. In the summer there is also a lovely outdoor cold water shower available.

In the relaxation room there is a sofa and two armchairs as well as a long bench. In addition, you can set up two folding tables and folding chairs if you are a large group and want to enjoy eating and drinking.

If you wish to light the stove you must bring your own logs. The relaxation room also has a little kitchen with two cooking plates, and a sink with hot and cold running water throughout the year. There is also a fridge and a microwave. The cooking utensils are basic with some cooking pots, frying pans, glasses and coffee mugs (no plates or cutlery).

Perhaps if the weather is fine you may choose instead to relax after the sauna in the lovely outdoor area with the big barbeque.

History

In 2004 the sauna was built by the Dyrön’s Community Association. The materials were paid for by private sponsors and by EU, Mål 2 Öarna [Swedish Objective 2 - Islands]. All the work was done by volunteers.
