Travel to and within Tanum

Tanum is located in the northern part of Bohuslän, at the west coast of Sweden.

Tanum Municipality is conveniently located near the major cities of Gothenburg and Oslo in Norway. You can easily drive via the road E6, or take a train and/or a bus.

E6 towards Oslo and Gothenburg runs through the municipality. To the east, we have road connections to Dalsland, Värmland, and the Vänern region. Road and rail complement each other well. To reach Tanum by rail from Gothenburg or Strömstad, there is a railway connection on the Bohus Line.

Train and/or bus
Between Oslo and Gothenburg, express buses stop in Tanumshede. Between Gothenburg and Strömstad, local trains run along the Bohus Line, with our local train station located just outside Tanumshede. Local buses stop at the train station, allowing you to travel further within the municipality. See the links below for information and timetables:

PARKING within Tanum Municipality

In central parking areas in Fjällbacka, Grebbestad, and Hamburgsund, a fee is charged from June 15 to August 15 between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM. The first hour is free, and thereafter a fee is charged. You can park for a maximum of 3 consecutive hours. For parking longer than one hour in fee-based parking areas, only EasyPark can be used.

Pay the fee
The fee is paid via app, SMS, Swish, credit card, invoice, PayPal, or voice response (provider EasyPark). Information on payment is available on information signs at the parking area and on EasyPark's website.

Long-term parking & parking map
Free long-term parking in the city's of Grebbestad, Fjällbacka, and Hamburgsund is about a 10-minute walk from the center. For an overview of parking, see the parking map of Tanum Municipality.

Fly to Tanum
Domestic, international, local, or just for fun - we have airports within reach. The nearest airport with domestic flights is Malöga in Trollhättan, about an hour's drive from Tanumshede. If you want to fly internationally, there is Landvetter in Gothenburg and Gardermoen outside Oslo.
For sport planes and other small aircraft, we have an airfield near Fjällbacka. Just a few miles north of the municipal border, in Strömstad Municipality, is Näsinge Field, which accommodates somewhat larger planes.

By Sea
Sea transport has old traditions here, from the Viking Age to the coastal shipping trade in the 1800s and early 1900s. Along our coastline, there are harbors for private boats, commercial shipping, and professional fishing. For coastal shipping, there are harbors in Grebbestad and Fjällbacka, and for professional fishing, there are harbors from Resö in the north to Hamburgsund in the south.
