Contemporary art in Sjuhärad
Contemporary art touches, provokes and unites. It is a reflection of the times we live in. Take a trip through artistic Sjuhärad and take time to reflect, think and be seduced.
In Sjuhärad, contemporary art is a complement and a development, perhaps even a revolt, against generations of industrial history. There are many exciting museums and galleries here where you can enjoy art from all over the world.
The city as a gallery
In Borås, everyone looks at art, every day. Wander through the streets and squares, past junctions and along the Viskan annd you cannot escape the hundreds of sculptures, installations and murals that co-exist within a radius of just under 1.5 kilometres. Borås public art is an internationally recognised, and constantly growing, experience available to everyone, all year round.
Boy art gallery
Boy art gallery is a space for contemporary art in the small community of Bollebygd in Sjuhärad. The art gallery is run by sisters Sara and Maja, who want to challenge the big city norm by showing that there is room for new ideas and artistic exploration even in the smaller townsa.
In addition to organising exhibitions and housing a small-scale arts and crafts shop, they run a residency program where artists are invited to create new works with the local community as a backdrop.
Borås Art Museum
Borås Art Museum is known for its national and international exhibitions and profiles itself in the fields of contemporary art and moving image. The museum owns and manages a large art collection that includes works from the early 20th century to contemporary art.
The museum consists of three floors divided into several exhibition areas. Here you can take part in current contemporary art, immerse yourself in Lars Tunbjörk's solid photographic heritage, which has its own projection room at the museum, and even try your own creations in the museum's studio.
Abecita Pop art & photography
Abecita Pop art & photography is not like other art museums. The works that hang here were never originally meant to be exhibited in a museum. They instead adorned the walls at the home of Bengt and Berit Swegmark, founders of one of Sjuhärad's largest textile companies. One day the collection became bigger than the house could handle. Then Abecita Pop art & Photography was born, which today consists of three floors with a total of 2400m².
The museum's collection - unique in Europe - consists of graphic art and photography from Europe and the USA, as well as award-winning Nordic textile art. The museum also has a café and a museum shop to raise the pulse of all art-interested people.
