Floda and Nääs – historic destinations which tick all the boxes
Floda and Nääs is an exciting area with a lot to offer, where innovative food places and thriving heritage sites make the perfect match. With a relaxing drop in tempo, just half an hour from Gothenburg, you’ll be able to wind down and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Floda and Nääs are situated in the area around Lake Sävelången. You’ll find fantastic food in a rustic former mill, trendy shops, Sweden’s largest golf club, one of the best preserved 19th century castles in Scandinavia and fun attractions for families. Floda and Nääs are along the E20 motorway and the western main line, thirty kilometres north of Gothenburg.
Shopping, food and hotel
There are many reasons to visit Nääs Fabriker, with its boutiques filled with fashion, interior design, jewellery and deli specialities, and a hotel in a beautiful former cotton spinning mill on the shores of Lake Sävelången. Facilities include an outdoor hot tub, swimming jetty, sauna, gym, shuffleboard and much more.

Nääs Fabriker and its surroundings are characterised by an impressive attention to detail, and the respectful restoration of the mill has preserved all its original charm. It’s a lively destination with a lot to offer, in the shape of trendy shops, a hotel, restaurant, café and deli.
Cinema with a traditional tiled stove
Follow the path from Nääs Fabriker to get to the little village of Tollered, one of Sweden’s best preserved industrial heritage sites. You’ll find many lovely buildings here, including Tollered’s Cinema. It’s probably one of the smallest cinemas you’ll ever see, but it shows films from all over the world. And there’s a cosy tiled stove in the auditorium. You can read about the history of the village on boards up on the buildings’ facades.
Rustic food experiences at Jernbruket
In Floda, in an old ironworks warehouse, lies Jernbruket – a restaurant offering food experiences with a little extra something. The interior is rustic and rural, and the river Såveån flows right outside the old brick building.
Genuine, hands on food preparation is what matters here. The wood fired grill takes centre stage, used to cook most of the ingredients. The meat is bought from local farms, one animal at a time. And the vegetables are almost all grown here. Even the beer comes from local microbreweries.

Step back in time
Visiting Nääs Castle is like stepping back into the 1800s. Since 1898, when the castle’s last private owner died, nothing has changed. The tea cups are still laid on the table and the beds are always made up. A guided tour of the castle lasts around 50 minutes.
But its not just the interior of the castle that’s worth a visit. The estate is set in beautiful natural surroundings, with lovely walks in the castle park (with giant ‘angel swings’ hanging in the stately oaks), swimming areas, a riding school and great fishing opportunities. There’s also a craft gallery here and a large choice of courses in among other things, arts and crafts, gardening and music.
The Slöjd & Byggnadsvård (building conservation) shop can be found just before you pass the bridge over Lake Sävelången, on the way up to the castle. It’s hard to find a more welcoming store than this one! It’s a great place to find home renovation inspiration.
Three things you might not know about Nääs Castle!
1. The Swedish series "Vår tid är nu" (The Restaurant) was filmed here
Did you know that Nääs was one of the filming locations for SVT’s drama success, The Restaurant? The beautiful spiral staircase is often seen in the series as well as in Helga Löwander’s flat.
2. Unique cross country course for hobby horses.
There’s been an upswing of interest in hobby horse jumping and in the park you’ll find the cross country course for hobby horses. Everyone is welcome to jump, with or without hobby horses. You can rent a ‘horse’ in reception. The park is open all year round.
3. You can stay the night at Nääs
You can stay overnight in Nääs Castle’s stunning settings. Accommodation can be booked in four historic buildings: the South Wing, North Wing, Vänhem and Björkenääs. The rooms are beautifully decorated and come in different sizes, from single and double rooms to suites and family rooms.
Sweden’s largest golf establishment
On the pretty peninsula between lakes Mjörn and Sävelången lies Öijared Resort – Sweden’s largest golf establishment and a unique hotel. A love of nature shines through in the hotel’s distinctive architecture, designed by Swedish architectural giant Gert Wingårdh. The rooms are well thought out, the restaurant menu follows the four Nordic seasons and in the relaxation area you’ll find a pool, sauna and gym.

Right outside the door you won’t just find beautiful countryside that’s great for hiking – the largest golf establishment in the country is also here. Choose between three 18 hole courses (one of which is pay and play), a state of the art golf studio and a multi course for golf, football golf and frisbee golf.
