Mountain biking on Billingen

Billingen plateau mountain in Skövde is a great place for nature experiences close to town, especially if you love mountain biking. Scenic cycling routes, pump tracks, and useful bike services are all close by.

In the forests around Billingen there’s 28 kilometres of mountain bike trails.

Bike park with pump track

Train your technique and balance in Billingen Bike Park with berms, jumps and obstacles. The park consists of two pump tracks with varying levels of difficulty, suitable for all ages. You can also go skateboarding, kick biking and inline skating here.

Perfect for families

Billingen is an exciting place for any age, with the Billingetrollets Trollstig Trail, the Skogsmulle Kingdom nature centre, fishing lakes, a high ropes course and play area. Down in the town you’ll find Arena Skövde with Sweden’s best indoor water park.

Good service close to hand

Billingen is an official Vasalopp Centre with a workshop where you can carry out repairs, shower, and change, as well as conference facilities, a sports shop, and bike hire. There are also several barbecue areas and shelters where you can stop for a break.

Go mountain biking on Kinnekulle

Kinnekulle is a verdant plateau mountain overlooking Lake Vänern. The Kinnekulle Path, which can be challenging in parts, takes you past dramatic scenery and excellent cafés.

The Kinnekulle Path

The 45 kilometre long Kinnekulle Path starts at the summit of Kinnekulle and then follows Lake Vänern’s shoreline back up again. The trail isn’t technically difficult but contains a few steep climbs. The magical views are your reward!

Enjoy the lovely views

Don’t forget to stop and enjoy the view now and again, not least when you get to the giant quarry. You’ll also find viewpoints, antique shops, manor houses, swimming spots, gardens to visit and lots of cafés on Kinnekulle.

Mountain biking in Ulricehamn

The Lassalyckan outdoor activity centre and Ski Bike Hike in Ulricehamn are two excellent hubs for cyclists. They offer plenty of MTB trails and pump tracks, along with useful bike services to help you get the most out of your ride.

Downhill Cycling

Just north of Ulricehamn, Ski Bike Hike offers one of southern Sweden’s best downhill biking spots. Each trail provides a unique experience, with challenges suitable for beginners and experienced riders.

Pump track

Come and get an adrenaline rush at Lassalyckan’s pump track. The track is open all day, is completely free to use and perfect for beginners as well as professionals. There’s also a tower and ramp with jumps.

Family friendly centres

Why not bring the kids to Ulricehamn too? There are easier cycle tracks for younger riders, plenty of family-friendly activities, and barbecue areas where you can stop for a relaxed picnic.

Everything on one site

Lassalyckan is an Official Vasalopp Centre, with services including showers, a sauna, bike washing facilities, bike pumps, and free parking. In the surrounding area, you’ll also find artificial turf pitches, ice rinks, wakeboarding, an obstacle course, and a hotel.

Just south of Strömstad lies Lagunen Camping with its very own bike park. You’ll find technical trails, pump tracks and flow tracks. Perfect for families who want to combine camping with fun mountain biking!

Lagunen Bikepark is an exciting bike park with many opportunities for improving your MTB riding skills. Facilities at the park include:

Ride through the forest

From the campsite, you can cycle through peaceful woodland on well-maintained trails to Lagunen Bikepark. The route is 4 kilometres long, and a guide is available if you’d like someone to show you the way. There is a barbecue area with firewood by the bike park.

Stay on the campsite

Lagunen is a family-friendly campsite right on the seashore. There’s always something fun to do, from adventure golf, kayaking, and hiking to relaxing in the sauna or taking a boat trip out into the archipelago. You can also hire bikes at the campsite.

Strömstad and Koster

Explore the coast while you’re here. Strömstad is a lively town with interesting shops, great places for fika, and traditional wooden villas to admire. You could also take the boat to the Koster Islands and continue your cycling adventure there.

Mountain biking in Gothenburg

Gothenburg has several excellent cycling areas, with scenic surroundings and trails for different levels of experience. Explore Änggårdsbergen, Delsjön, Hisingsparken, Vättlefjäll, Sandsjöbacka, and the Bohusleden.

 

Mountain biking in Dalsland

Dalsland is known for its lakes, forests, and wide-open views. Around Bengtsfors there are many great MTB trails at different levels of difficulty. If you like competing, check out the Dalsland X-country course , which starts and finishes in Bengtsfors. There is a longer 57-kilometre course and a shorter 35-kilometre route.

 

Mountain biking in Mösseberg

Cykelcentrum Mösseberg in Falköping is an excellent meeting place for cyclists, with routes and facilities for everyone from beginners to elite riders. On Mösseberg’s leafy slopes, there are three challenging MTB trails of 0.6, 2.5, and 3.5 kilometres. You’ll find useful tips and inspiration on the centre’s website, including bike-friendly accommodation and scenic routes nearby.

 

Downhill on Kesberget

Kesberget Bikepark in Vårgårda has ten MTB trails at different levels of difficulty, from singletrack with smaller hills and jumps to more challenging downhill trails with steep slopes and bigger jumps. You can buy single-day or annual lift passes at the park.

 

Downhill in Bollekollen

Bollekollen is situated between Gothenburg and Borås. The bike park has eleven trails and a lift, with options for beginners, trail bikers, and jump nerds.

8 tips for your cycle tour

1. Take plenty of water. On some trails, the nearest tap or water point can be many kilometres away.

2. You can get cover a lot of ground quickly by bike, and getting back with a puncture can be a nuisance, so take a small repair kit with you.

3. Wear eye protection. Twigs and insects in your eyes are nobody's idea of a good day out.

4. Wear a helmet. It’s a given.

5. For a more comfortable ride, invest in a pair of padded cycling shorts!

6. Be considerate, respectful, and observant. Stop, get off your bike, and stand to the side when you meet walkers, horse riders, grazing animals, or wildlife.

7. Avoid riding on the trails if the weather or season makes them vulnerable to damage. Respect the landowner.
