The best preserved spinning mill i Sweden

A visit to Rydal Museum is a complete experience for the senses in Sweden’s best-preserved spinning mill. The spinning machines in the machine hall have stood in place since the 1940s, and you can almost hear the textile workers at work. Enjoy the various exhibitions, designed for both adults and children.

An interactive exhibition

In Rydal Museum’s permanent exhibition TEXTIL MARK – The Story of Rydal and the Textile Region of Mark, you can experience the era when the area became a centre for textile trade and manufacturing through projections, animations, sound and light design, and interactive elements. In a vibrant setting, you’ll learn about the history of Rydal’s spinning mill and the community that grew up around the factory. For families with children, the museum mascot NystANN helps make the exhibition fun for younger visitors.

Stroll through the old industrial village

After a tasty lunch at Rydal Manor, it’s nice to stretch your legs before visiting the museum. The signposted historical walk of just under a kilometer around the museum’s surroundings is popular. Along the way, you’ll discover the history of both the people and the buildings.
Round off the day with a visit to the craft shop Akleja, where you’ll find newly made arts and crafts in textiles, wood, and ceramics — perfect for yourself or as gifts. Don’t miss Rydal’s Pillar Hall with its more than twenty different shops.

A cultural heritage cycling tour

The cultural heritage cycling route Förläggargårdsturen takes you through the beautiful textile region of Sjuhärad. During the tour, you’ll cross the Viskan, Surtan, and Häggån rivers on beautiful stone arch bridges; learn more about the region; and take a guided tour of Rydal Museum. You can stay overnight at one of the historic förläggargårdar (textile farmhouses) or at one of the many accommodations along the route.
Welcome to the history of the textile industry!
