Dog-friendly

  • Café Doppingen is located next to the Hornborga Lake Visitor Center. Dogs are welcome at the café. Just inside the doors, there is a section where you can sit with your dog. Of course, you can also sit with your dog on the outdoor terrace.

  • Löfwings Ateljé & Krog - Dogs are welcome at some of the tables in the restaurant/café, these must be booked in advance. In the exhibition, it's okay but ask first. Dogs are welcome on the outdoor terrace, where umbrellas and water are available.

  • Next to Varnhem Abbey Church lies Kata Farm. Dogs are welcome inside if they are on a leash! Take the opportunity to hike the Rose Path with your dog. The Rose Path is a beautiful hiking trail of about 2 km that winds its way in a wide arc around the Abbey Church with monastery ruins and Kata Farm. Remember to keep your dog on a leash during your walk.

  • At the Fornbyn Open Air Museum in Skara, dogs can accompany you inside through the gates to see old buildings from all over Västergötland!

  • Ekehagen Prehistoric Village - Travel back in time and discover how people and animals lived during ancient times. Leashed dogs are welcome in the park. Outside the reception, there is a water bowl for our four-legged friends. You can also bring your dog to the outdoor seating area. NOTE! There are grazing animals in certain areas of the park.

  • Mösseberg Animal Park - The park features chickens, goats, horses, alpacas, and more. In the enclosures where the animals are not grazing at the moment, there is an opportunity to walk your dog. The enclosures rotate with animals depending on the condition of the pasture. Look for signs in the park indicating where you can walk your dog. Keep your dog leashed everywhere in the park. In the outdoor area on the mountain with beautiful views, there are many activities for families with dogs, including jogging trails and hiking trails of various lengths and terrain.

  • Billingen offers diverse nature in its reserves on the mountain – from beautiful meadows on the limestone plateau atop the mountain to dramatic diabase pillars and waterfalls. There are many nice places to experience together with your dog, but it should always be supervised, which for most of the time means the dog should be leashed.

Please note!

During the period from March 1st to August 20th, wildlife is particularly sensitive, and according to the Right of Public Access (Allemansrätten), dogs should be kept on a leash. In nature reserves and grazing pastures, dogs must also be leashed. It's difficult to predict how grazing animals will react to dogs, so be cautious and attentive or choose another route. A dog owner has a strict responsibility to ensure that the dog does not cause 'damage or considerable inconvenience.' This applies not only to wildlife but also to grazing domestic animals.
